Kiwanis is a worldwide service
organization of men and women who want
to improve their communities.
The name
Kiwanis is taken from an American Indian
phrase meaning "self-expression" or "to
make oneself known". More than 300,000
men and women worldwide belong to over
8,000 Kiwanis Clubs. We become
personally involved in making our
communities better places to live. As a
group, we achieve what individually, we
cannot do alone. Working together, we
voluntarily share the challenge of
community improvement and leadership,
assuming personal responsibility for
humanitarian and civic projects the
public authorities cannot perform.
Some types of activities include:
-
Assistance to youth and
aging
-
Conservation of natural
resources
-
Development of community
facilities
-
Creation of
international goodwill
and understanding
