It's Berry Time, 2008
For Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis, June is the beginning of Berry Time, Strawberries, then Raspberries and then Blueberries. These Edmonds Senior Kiwanians provide freshly picked and washed Skagit Valley berries to their appreciative Edmonds and surrounding areas customers. The superior Skagit Valley quality berries are from Mike and Jean’s Berry Farm near Mt. Vernon. After picking, they are quickly transported to Edmonds by a convoy of Edmonds Senior Kiwanians. Strawberries are first to be delivered , this year they will be ready for local customers to pick up at the South County Senior Center on the afternoon of June 26th. Strawberries come in 15 pound pail for at $28, ready to go into the freezer, or make jelly, jam, or strawberry shortcake.
The raspberries, delivered on July 10th, will follow the same procedure. They come in 14 pound pails at $29. The premier blueberries will follow these in 10 pound boxes at $29 and will be ready to be picked up at the Senior Center on July 31st.
Local programs assisted through the berry sales are The Little Red Schoolhouse, Meadowdale PreSchool, Children’s Hospital (knit hats for newborns and chemo patients), Healthy Mothers-Healthy Babies, Kiwanis Bike helmets for elementary school children and Clothes for Kids. We also man several food bank drives for the Edmonds Food bank and sponsor the Meadowdale High School Key Club. For more information on purchasing these delicious local berries, contact Clayne Leitner of Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis at 206-542-6351.
