AQUA SOX BASEBALL On July 28th, a bunch of Edmonds Kiwanis Seniors journeyed to the Everett Aqua Sox Baseball game and had a “Ball”!
We cheered, stomped our feet, booed, ate popcorn, ate hotdogs, drank pop, (even drank coffee), cheered again, sweated because it was hot, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

President’s Corner With balmy summer weather, it’s a challenge to stay focused on our Kiwanis efforts! The past two months have flown by (even with a 3 week vacation included) - - berry sales, ball games, picnic, inter-clubs, member’s illnesses, we have all been busy! We carried our club’s greetings to the University Kiwanis club in Anchorage, AK., giving them our brochure and business card. Mary Boden is their president, there were three other members present. We are in turn, relaying their greetings to our club. Besides us there was a visitor from California. Looking ahead we will be involved with Edmonds Night Out, The Taste of Edmonds, and the PNW Convention in Eugene. These events put our club before the public. We are not only involving ourselves in the life of our community, — but hopefully attracting some new folks. September signals “back to school” and the pace changes. Vacations are behind us and we are all ready to “dig in” for a promising Kiwanis year. We have the ideas, the energy, and the effort. There is plenty to do for everyone! Remember Let’s do more in ‘04! President Elwin

IMPORTANT Read your June/July Builder for information about considerations that are to be brought up to the PNW Delegates. We need to know how you feel about some of these things. Remember the vote on dues! Well, at the same time the dues were raised, it was voted to finish the mission to virtually eliminate IDD world wide. Fighting the the ONGOING battle against IDD. An additional 3 million dollars has been committed to wipe this out. Also YCPO has committed more projects. Kiwanis Clubs were directed to support YCPO by addressing issues in safetly & Pediatric trauma;child care and development, maternal and infant health & parent education and support. Seems to me we are maxed out for any new stuff.

OUR VERY OWN KIWANIS OF EDMONDS BROCHURES! Yes Sir, our very own brochures are now in the brochure display area by the elevator at the South County Senior Center. We have lots, so don’t hesitate to ask Elwin, Shirley or even George and Howie at our meeting check-in desk for some. Use them with our “business” cards to tell everyone about Kiwanis, and especially Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis. Remember, Young Children are out first priority, and WE BUILD. Bridges are built by Kiwanis between those that have, and those that need. The Kiwanis IDD program is always ongoing. The little Red School house gives training for developmentally disabled children, a need that never ends; the wool caps and shawls for new babies and chemo patients are always necessary; bike helmets to help prevent brain injuries from falls; food for hungry, malnourished children; there is so much need, some we haven’t even known existed, for instance fetal alcohol syndrome is devastating, and ongoing. Through Key Clubs and other clubs for school age children, teens, and college students, Kiwanis attempts to build Community Responsibility. With everyone doing their share, a lot can be done— a little here, a little more there, It All Adds Up—- WE BUILD !

The Picnic in the Park, held on July 20, was a great success. Weather was fantastic, there were several guests, great food and we finished up with strawberry shortcake from our own Skagit valley.

Still needing donations of yarn, washable yarn preferred, nylon, orlon, etc. Volunteer knitters would be more than welcome, too. Yarn is used for caps for newborn babes, shawls for chemo patients, and in some cases, afghans. Contact any Kiwanis Senior member.
