PHONE CALLS AND PERSONAL VISITS ARE REWARDING

It's amazing what you can do for a person if you take the time to give them a call or go visit them. When Gary was president he had a schedule prepared for visitation purposes. Results were gratifying not only for the visitor but for the person visited. A list should be prepared each week and then volunteers asked for. Results should be presented each week.

CAMP CASEY AUG 1-8

For years Tillicums have help support a program sponsored by the North Central Kiwanis Club i.e. the summer camp for disabled children. Past years manpower has been donated on three days  i.e., W-T-F. Health problems have taken their toll so we may be down to 2. It is the time to determine which days we will be going and who will volunteer! This should be taken care of today. So to notify North Central who and how many are coming and on what days.

INSTALLATION TIME NEARS

It is time to start planning for "change of the guard!" New officers will take over on October lst so time to plan for it.!

"IN WYOMING"

Have  you ever seen the sunrise on the high and rolling plain?

Did you ever smell wet sagebrush after sudden springtime rain?

Have you ever felt the smart and sting of gravel in your face?

Then you've never known the glamour of that God-forsaken place,     WYOMING!

Have you ever seen the skyline when the evening shadows fall,

Find the mountains look like cardboard, and you hear the coyotes call?

Have you seen the Painted BadLands, in their yellow, red and blue?

Then you'll never know how lonesome life can be until you do,             IN WYOMING

Have you seen the sand and sagebrush, while down the hills,

Along the draws the cooling shadows lay?

It's lonesome, and it's desolate, its off the beaten track'

But once you've caught the lure of it, you're homesick 'til your back,      IN WYOMING

ANNUAL BAR-B-QUE. YARD SALE. AND SILENT AUCTION DOES WELL

Things looked a little bleak on Saturday the 10th of July with cloudy and cold weather followed by a rain storm. It didn't deter some folks who still braved it. Sunday was totally different with warm and sunny weather and steady customers. Preliminary figures showed we fed 984, The donation can netted $108 and the yard sale brought in about $1400. Profit from the salmon as well as the silent auction is yet to be totaled. An extra bonus was attendance by Maury Hedlund, Wade Spaulding and Glenn Grinnell. "Dibe" was the "Good Samaritan" by making  several home deliveries. Also among our guests were Mayor Liz Loomis, Congressman Rick Larsen and candidate for State Attorney General, Mike Vaska. "Dibe" was given special recognition at the July 12th meeting for his outstanding ticket sales. Not singling out for their work, all members who worked should be applauded. A real team effort!

PART B DEDUCTIBLE TO RISE

In the uproar "' over the new Medicare' law's drug benefits and privatization features , one element often gets lost: The law also raises the Part B annual deductible. On January 1, 2005, the deductible will rise from $100 (where it's been since( 1991) to $110. Every year after that, the deductible will rise annually by the same percentage as the Part B premium increase.

MEDICARE NOT ALONE

KIWANIS ALSO ON THE RISE

We may have forgotten that with the dues increase last year it was also noted that dues would rise $1.00 per year after that for the next 5 years. This is a subject for discussion and action before the Kiwanis year begins on October 1st. The Board agreed last year we would not underwrite dues increases as it put our administrative account in precarious state when this was done on previous occasions. Members should be paying their fair share! This boils down to the full amount for dues.

COMMUNITY PAY IT'S RESPECTS TO EVERETT OLSEN ON HIS 90TH!

A steady stream of "well wishers" greeted Everett on July 13th from 2 to 5 P.M. at the Belle Chapel. It would take more than space than this newsletter provides to list all of the accomplishment and good works of this kindly "elder citizen of his beloved Snohomish"! As the last charter member and first president of the Tillicums your club thanks you and sends it heartfelt thanks and good wishes.

HOW OLD IS A SENIOR?

The Executive Board on July 19th, voted to make 55 - age for seniors at all of our functions.

"OLD AGE IS NOT FOR SISSIES"  (PART 3)

If the young knew!---if the old could.

If a young or middle-aged man does not recollect where he laid his hat, it is nothing; but if the same inattention is discovered in an ofd man, people will shrug their shoulders and say "His memory is going."

Old people like to give good advice, since they can no longer set bad examples.

I stopped a middle-aged person in the street and asked, "Do you think mid-life crisis is a consequence of ignorance or apathy?" His answer: "I don't know and I don't care."

Old age is like underwear: it creeps up on you.

Man is old when he begins to hide his age; woman, when she begins to tell hers.

Young people tell what they are doing-old people what they have done, and fools what they wish to do.

You know when you're getting older when you look forward to a dull evening.

Old age is like something else. To make a success of it, you've got to start young.

Wrinkles are ditches that the gods have dug for our tears.

(Part 4 will be in the September issue)
